While every season brings a great deal of hype around the designer collections, this Milan Fashion Week felt exceptionally buzzier. Looking at the show schedule, it was clear that it would be a week that combined reverent reminders of the past and mold-breaking views of the future.
For those who still yearn for the heyday of "Quiet Luxury", look away as our picks for the best looks from Milan Fashion Week are singing a new tune.
Designer Dhruv Kapoor took his audience on a journey with his brand's latest collection. Models walked down a runway of sand, either barefoot or wearing leather flats adorned with silver, leaving us to wonder where they'd hypothetically go in their richly embellished and tailored clothes. While the sand stopped at the end of the runway, there were fabulously ornate clothes meant to be worn anywhere and everywhere.
Ever wonder what a modern Jackie O would wear on a luxurious jet-set holiday? The latest Alberta Ferretti collection answered that question with pleated goddess gowns and tailored separates in hues that mimicked simmering sunsets and sea foam washing ashore, complete with silk scarves wrapped around models' heads. The only thing missing? Oversized sunnies.
Seductive simplicity? Modern minimalism? However you want to describe it, the latest Jil Sander collection not only served as Creative Director Simone Bellotti's debut, but also as a solid reminder that the brand has always, and will continue to, serve up sleek, smart, and, most importantly, stylish clothes. From peekaboo tops with sequin bras and colorful sheer tulles to shrunken sweats and pencil skirts with unexpected cutouts, there was excitement in the most wearable pieces.
