The Hidden Meaning Behind Emily's Clothes And Style Evolution In Season 5...

Emily in Paris season 5 has finally premiered, and more than the romantic or professional drama, what has elicited gasps of amazement is the fashion. Because yes, despite the harsh criticism the wardrobe received in the first two seasons, this Netflix series is establishing itself as a fashion benchmark in the history of popular culture.

Part of the core of the story is seeing a young woman adapt from the cosmopolitan landscapes of the United States to the historic streets of Paris and Rome (hint: the ruins of Mount Olympus lie in the next city she conquers). This process is represented both literally in the plot and abstractly (and very luxuriously) through fashion. ⁘In Rome, "she's loosening up a little, and her style's evolving and getting more sophisticated," added creator Darren Star .

The protagonist began as a young woman starting her professional career, then working from Paris, and in this new installment, which premiered on December 18, we see her managing her first headquarters of a major company in Rome.

"Italian women never shy away from being overdressed [with] glitter, feathers, et cetera," Fitoussi recently explained to Marie Claire . "[It's] what a Parisian woman would never want to do. The word 'overdressed' in France is considered rude."

The vibrant nature of the Italian capital was the main inspiration for the looks of the fifth season. "The colors in Rome are brighter than in Paris," she stated. "Paris became a little bit more monochromatic." She also noted that Venice favors a "much softer palette" with shades of beige and light green.
