It would be very hard to miss the bright lights and mirrors of the beauty brand's pop-up outside Boots . Busy with beauticians, the event gathers people for a free colour matching with their products as well as free samples, but it stretches far beyond foundation.
Available from Boots, Sephora, and other high-street brands, the cosmetics company was founded over 30 years ago by François Nars, a French makeup artist and photographer. They've since seen massive success in markets all over the world, which has brought them to the North East.
I went to the NARS cosmetics stand and was greeted by a friendly beautician who helped me into a chair and set away. In the interest of fairness, I would like to mention that I don't normally wear a lot of makeup, so when they offered the choice between a lighter foundation or one with more coverage, I went with the former.
Comparable to a BB cream, much like Erborian's BB cream for skin that's more acne prone, the beautician said that it would be ⁘great for summer⁘ combined with the Taj Mahal blush . Every shade and combination was instinctive as she brought them out, explaining each one as she went and the way it would work with different skin shades.
Their other option for the event was the Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, advertised to last 16 hours and provide maximum coverage but is still buildable with other products.
The two types of concealer they had on offer matched both types of foundation perfectly, with all the shades working in sync with each other for a cohesive look. The Creamy Concealer is a liquid, but for more coverage, there's the Soft Matte Concealer , a deceptively small tub but with the texture of a pomade, with a little going a long way. But as the beautician was keen to point out, you don't paint a canvas with just one shade.
