Late last month, Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña was a guest of honor, alongside Alexander Skarsgård , Deepika Padukone , and Anna Sawai , as Cartier presented its new high jewelry collection, En Équilibre, at the Artipelag cultural center in Stockholm.
The new collection includes necklaces, earrings, and rings whose precious charm references the balance between symmetries and asymmetries, the harmony between empty and full spaces, and the play of colors inspired, as always for the maison, by the imperfect perfection of nature. As true balance requires, the search for essentiality, precision, and a certain rigor is certainly not at the expense of inspiration, imagination and wonder. In short, this is a collection in which the dear old principle of opposites attracting each other takes on a new and full meaning.
Opposites such as gentleness and stubbornness, strength and being delicate, determination and sensitivity, which are characteristic of Saldaña in her acting career.
Vanity Fai r spoke with Saldaña about her Oscar win, her relationship to jewelry and her greatest gift.
Zoe Saldaña: I feel that my relationship with jewelry is intensifying as I grow up, because I can appreciate it in a deeper and deeper way: it's a kind of rediscovery of how precious it is to own a timeless piece that you can share with your family and pass down from generation to generation. Thanks to Cartier, I am having a unique experience in the world of jewelry, from buying the stones to the design to the craftsmanship by which they are made. It is simply wonderful.
I feel an affinity with all Cartier pieces, because I love the harmony of inspiration that this fashion house has always drawn from nature, flora and fauna, which it has redesigned and reinvented to create these pieces that are simply beautiful. So even if I'm wearing something that I know was made by a man or a woman, I feel like it's a natural element. It's a strange emotion to describe.
